China’s online literature market has grown at an annual growth rate of more than 20 percent since 2012. The number of users has reached 333 million by the end of 2016, with its market size reaching $1.3 billion, according to the Publicity Department of the Beijing Municipal Committee on July 2.

"There is now a large selection of high-quality online literature, bringing benefits to readers," said Yang Shuo, director of the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Press, Publication, Radio, Film, and Television. The official added that online literature in China is in its golden age and has become an indispensable part of the Chinese culture.

As challenges remain in its development, an upcoming conference on network literature to be held in China by Chinese authorities from August 11 to 13 should encourage its healthy development.
