What is the most beautiful Chinese poem you have ever read? An American netizen shares a story about an older Dutch lady living near where he grew up: “During the last few weeks of her life, she gave us an anthology of Li Po’s poetry. I suppose as a way of thanking my father for his medical help and counselling. She left a note in the front with this poem of his: Drinking Alone Under The Moon.”

In fact, many netizens in the U.S. who are learning Chinese like to discuss and share their favourite Chinese poems on the forum. These foreigners are very familiar with the poems of Li Po, Du Fu, Wang Wei, Su Shi and other Chinese great poets.

In addition to poetry, other Chinese cultural products are also gradually gaining more and more oversea fans. “The Three-Body Problem” of the Hugo Award winner Liu Cixin has popularized a trend of Chinese science-fiction. The Chinese TV series such as “Nirvana in Fire” and “Ode to Joy” have also been heating up in all sorts of ways.

Data shows that Chinese online literature has already successfully gained popularity among Western readers. On the novel translation platforms Wuxiaworld and Gravity Tales, millions of oversea netizens are checking the update of Chinese novels such as “The Story of Choosing the Heaven” and “I Shall Seal the Heavens” every day. It seems that Chinese pop culture is bringing some different air to more and more people overseas.
