BEIJING, May 29 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and his French counterpart Jean-Yves Le Drian held a phone conversion on Monday to discuss relations between their two countries, particularly maintenance of the momentum of rapid development of bilateral relations.
In the talk, Wang express the hope that that the two countries earnestly implement the consensus reached recently between the heads of state of the two countries, and keep the momentum of rapid development of China-France comprehensive strategic partnership.
Wang also congratulated Jean-Yves Le Drian for taking the top job of the French Foreign Ministry.
For his part, Le Drian said the France-China strategic cooperation has been fruitful and the two sides are having increasing common interests and common topics.
Le Drian said he looks forward to visiting China at an early date and establishing a good working relationship with Wang.
The two ministers also exchanged views on the implementation of Paris agreement on climate change and the situation on the Korean Peninsula.
Le Drian had served as French defense minister for five years, before he was nominated in mid-May by newly-elected President Emmanuel Macron to head the French Foreign Ministry.
