Chinese commerce experts are warning Chinese customers to be cautious of canned air products, claiming that some canned air is being falsely advertised. According to the experts, while imported air is permitted to be sold in China, it must meet foreign production requirements.

Some domestic and international shop owners are cashing in on China's heavy smog problem by selling cans of fresh air for anywhere between 5 and 200 RMB ($0.72 to 28.96) per can.

Shop owners keep the air in containers ranging from mineral water bottles to air tanks, complete with breathing masks. However, most are unclear about expiration dates, explaining that canned air is a novelty product.

One online shop boasted that its pure and fresh air, collected from seasides and mountains, is priced at just 5 RMB. Beijing-based consumers are even entitled to discounts, as they suffer from especially heavy smog. The shop owner suggests that consumers take a deep breath of air every time they open the bottle.
