A cultural relic dating back to the Ming and Qing Dynasties was recently found at a construction site 500 meters away from Nanchang's West Station, surrounded by construction equipment and concrete. The relic turned out to be an ancient gatehouse, featuring delicately carved embossments that depict daily life in the old days.
The area where this irreplaceable cultural relic was found was actually listed as a protected cultural site at the municipal level in 2011. The reason for the mix-up is that a mistake was made when the district was rezoned. Formal authority for cultural relic protection was not handed over to the new administrators of the district, so a decision was made to temporarily protect the relic on-site.
Some experts believe the gatehouse should now be transported and reassembled in another location to better preserve it.
