Zhang Shaojun, vice director of the Land and Resources Bureau of Fugu County in Shannxi province, is being held in custody after his "dauter-in-law" reported him to the Discipline Inspection Commissions of both Fugu County and the city of Yulin.

On Sept. 26, an article about the incident went viral on WeChat and other online forums. According to the article, the daughter-in-law, Wang, who participated in a marriage ceremony with Zhang's son, Zhang Jiamin, in 2013, never actually registered for marriage with her husband-to-be. When she was several months pregnant, Wang found out that her “husband” had cheated on her.

Zhang Jiamin cut himself off from Wang, refusing to communicate with her even after she gave birth. Zhang Shaojun and his wife also took measures to squeeze Wang out the family. As a result, Wang reported the corruption of Zhang Shaojun to the Discipline Inspection Commission of both Fugu County and the city of Yulin.

Wang reported that Zhang Shaojun owns over 20 apartments. Currently, ownership of seven apartments and two shops has been confirmed by the Anti-Corruption Bureau of Yulin. Besides real estate, Zhang Shaojun also has tens of millions of RMB, mostly in the accounts of his wife, son and daughter. Taking advantage of his power, the offical took bribes and traveled abroad at the expense of others. He even had a drawer full of gold bars.

On the afternoon of Sept. 27, Li Shengyuan, secretary of the Discipline Inspection Commission of Fugu County, said that the case of Zhang Shaojun is being investigated by the Anti-Corruption Bureau of Yulin. Zhang Shaojun is currently in custody.

On the morning of Sept. 27, a reporter from Huashang Daily contacted Wang, who said that she has moved to Xi'an in order to protect her child.
