(Xinhua)    10:51, September 24, 2016

MONTREAL, Canada, Sept. 23 -- China and Canada should increase efforts in promoting bilateral cooperation and properly manage their differences, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said on Friday.

Wang made the remarks when meeting with his Canadian counterpart Stephane Dion during Premier Li Keqiang's official visit to Canada.

Hailing Li's visit as successful, Wang said the exchange of visits between the Chinese premier and the Canadian prime minister within a month, as well as a joint statement listing 29 achievements issued by the two sides, have sent a positive signal to the outside world. He said he hopes the China-Canada relationship can set an example for other Western countries.

Wang called on both sides to take the necessary steps needed to strengthen their ties and turn the two leaders' words into action. He said the two countries should make efforts to promote cooperation and properly manage their differences and negative factors.

Echoing Wang's views, Dion said Li has sent a message of deepening bilateral cooperation to Canadians from all walks of life. As both countries have outlined the future of their relations, the next step is to focus on how to consistently develop the relationship, he said.

Dion said Canada and China enjoyed a friendly relationship in the past and will embrace a promising future.

The two foreign ministers also exchanged views on cooperation in African affairs and the nuclear issue on the Korean Peninsula.
