A college freshman from central China's Henan province rode a bicycle 1,100 kilometers to reach his college campus, located in Ganzhou, a city in eastern China, chinanews.com reported.

Learning that he had been admitted to Jiangxi University of Science and Technology, the student, Zhou Qihuan, a cycling enthusiast, immediately decided to ride to campus on bicycle. Zhou's family worried about the idea at first, but they changed their minds after seeing Zhou's detailed plan.

On Aug. 23, Zhou started his journey from his hometown. He rode an average of 60 kilometers per day during the 18-day trip. However, especially as a solo rider, Zhou had to overcome various difficulties. Loneliness was the biggest problem, said Zhou. But help and support from various people that he met along the way motivated him to complete the trip.

Having accomplished his first major solo ride, Zhou said that his next goal is to ride to Lhasa via the Sichuan-Tibet Highway.
