A total of 73 countries and regions have given confirmation on participation in the 6th TAFISA World Games in Jakarta from Oct. 6 to 12, the organizing committee disclosed here on Thursday.
The committee is still waiting for confirmation from 31 other countries and regions, said Hayono Isman, head of the committee.
"This sport event is very unique and new in Indonesia," he revealed at the FX building.
Isman is also chairman of TAFISA member organization, Indonesia sport for all federation (FORMI).
During the Games, the athletes will vie on traditional sports, exhibition sports, and recreational sports, he said.
Besides, they would also compete in modern sports, such as jet sky and BMX cycling, Isman added.
He said that 3,800 security personnel will be dispatched to safeguard the Games.
The TAFISA World Games will offer a unique opportunity to discover the variety and values of sport for all including traditional games and popular sports of cultures from around the world.
During this year's games in Jakarta, the event are set to reflect the cultural wealth of Indonesia, an archipelago country home to about 17,500 islands with a unique diversity of culture, customs, tribes, language and religion.
This diversity is mirrored in Jakarta which is home to over 10 million people and gateway to Indonesia with over 250 million populations.
The Games will be held under the patronage of UNESCO and IOC.
