Famed for the gold rush, gunslingers and its spectacular mountains, the American frontier fascinates millions of visitors every year – but they probably haven’t seen it like this before.
These high contrast black-and-white images show stunning scenes in places such as Arizona’s Grand Canyon, California’s Yosemite National Park and Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming.
They were captured by French photographer Laurent Baheux, who visited the greatest landscapes in America’s Wild West to retrace the steps of Ansel Adams.
Adams was famous for his black-and-white photos of western landscapes, including Yosemite, and has inspired generations of photographers.
More than 30 of Baheux’s photos appear in a new book, America, which celebrates the country’s seemingly endless horizons and landscapes.
The 46-year-old said on his website: ‘This territory is amazing, huge and ever changing. There are mountains, plains, deserts with panoramas that take your breath away.’
