4 dead after north China colliery flooding

TAIYUAN, July 15 -- The death toll from a coal mine flood in north China's Shanxi Province rose to four as the body of the last victim was recovered on Friday.

The body was lifted out of the shaft in Jincheng City at 1:30 p.m., 12 days after the accident. Eight miners who were rescued are in good health, according to the local rescue headquarters.

The colliery was flooded when 94 people were working in the shaft. Eighty-two of them were evacuated, but 12 were left trapped.

The eight miners were reached by phone the day after the flooding. After about 125 hours' continuous rescue efforts, they were brought to safety at 4:26 a.m. on Friday.
