China’s State-run media slammed the Dalai Lama for his attempts to win more world attention for his political purposes by arguing that the South China Sea issue could be solved with global assistance.

During a meeting with a Vietnamese delegation in India in late May, the 14th Dalai Lama responded to a question regarding the South China Sea that it is a complicated issue and that the whole world should offer help in order to find a solution to such kind of disputes, reported the Voice of Tibet, a Norway-based website supporting “Tibet independence.”

Such remarks “have overlooked China’s stance and have molded public opinion for forces outside the region, such as the U.S., to intervene in the South China Sea,” argued Tibet.cn, a website affiliated with the Chinese government, in a Sunday article.

“It is once again self-proven that [the Dalai Lama] is a loyal tool for international anti-China, secessionist forces,” the article noted, adding that through such remarks, the Dalai Lama has betrayed China’s national interests.

China has repeatedly emphasized on its indisputable rights to sovereignty over the South China Sea islands and that the South China Sea issue should be solved peacefully through consultations and negotiations with all parties concerned. It has also urged countries outside the region to play a constructive role.

The Dalai Lama’s remarks have obviously gone against China’s national interests, but assist in boosting the arrogance of forces outside the region with a full flattering tone, the article noted.
