The world’s biggest Bible factory in China is expected to finish printing for a total of 150 million copies of the Holy Bible by the end of this June since it went into operation in 1988.

The Nanjing-based Amity Printing Company is close to finishing the printing of 150 million copies of the Holy Bible by June, Qiu Zhonghui, the company’s chairman, was quoted as saying by Christian Times, a Beijing-based news website on Christianity.

According to the company website, Bible orders have been roughly on the rise since 2003 up until 2015, the total number of printed Bible copies topped 13.8 million. By this April, the company has printed more than 3 million Bibles.

The company is a joint venture between the Amity Foundation and the United Bible Societies. It is a major exporter of quality Bibles to over 70 countries, and the company website said apart from domestic production it has “an ongoing mission and priority to serve the Christian church in China.”

“As China opened up to the world [starting in the early 1980s] most people were focused on improving their basic living level…Once people reach a certain living standard then they start looking for spiritual fulfillment and that’s why we see so much demand for Christianity in China – the meaning of life becomes important once you have enough money to survive,” Qiu said in an interview with the Financial Times in 2014.
