WASHINGTON, April 24 -- A teenage gunman wounded two students outside a school's prom in the U.S. state of Wisconsin Saturday night, and later died in hospital after being shot by the police, local authorities said Sunday.
Jakob E. Wagner, 18, was identified as the attacker outside Antigo High School.
Neither of the two victims received life-threatening injuries.
"Officers were in the parking lot patrolling the activities and heard the shot ... An officer immediately fired upon the shooter, stopping the threat," NBC News quoted Antigo Police Chief Eric Roller as saying.
Investigators are yet to specify the motive of the shooting, but it is reported that Wagner, a student with a disability who had graduated from Antigo, intended to go into the ball with his rifle.
Friends of Wagner were surprised at the incident, as he was a "good kid" in their opinion. They also said he was dating a girl at Antigo but had recently broken up.
