Do Not Self-entertain: China’s FM on G7’s Maritime Security Statement

(People's Daily Online)    22:57, April 13, 2016

China does not acknowledge the claims made in the statement issued by the foreign ministers from the Group of Seven (G7) on disputes in the East and South China Seas, said spokesperson Lu Kang of Ministry of Foreign Affairs on regular press conference on April 13, 2016.

“We do believe there is something incorrect and mistaken in the statement,” said Lu Kang, “"So yes we called in envoys from the relevant countries, solemnly expressing China's position on this matter," he added.

The statement was issued by the foreign ministers from Britain, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, and the United States on Monday after they convened in the Japanese city of Hiroshima.

“Perhaps the relevant parties would like to see such a situation as they have imagined: that the G7 statement assumes major significance worldwide, and that China felt the pressure,” said Lu Kang. “If they really think so, I would like to advise them not to self-entertain.”
