BEIJING, March 30 -- More than 200 people from Taiwan will attend a ceremony held on the mainland to pay homage to Huangdi, or the Yellow Emperor, on the Tomb-sweeping Day on April 4.

Former vice chairman of Kuomintang (KMT) party Chan Chun-po and New Party chairman Yok Mu-ming will participate in the event, along with residents from the island's Taichung City, New Taipei City and Nantou County, said An Fengshan, spokesman for the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office, at a press conference on Wednesday.

The legendary Emperor is considered the founder of the Chinese civilization and ancestor of all Chinese people.

The annual gathering at the emperor's mausoleum in Huangling County of northwest China's Shaanxi Province, occurs on Tomb-sweeping Day, a traditional festival when Chinese mourn their deceased family members.

This year's ceremony is organized by the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office, Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of the State Council, and Shannxi provincial government.

Such ceremony can help carry forward Chinese traditional culture and inspire national pride and cohesion among descendants of the Yellow Emperor.
