BEIJING, March 9 -- Legislation in China got "large in number, considerable in weight and rapid in pace," Zhang Dejiang, China's top legislator, said Wednesday.
Focusing on the key task of raising the quality of legislation, the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC), the top legislature, channeled great effort into advancing legislation in key areas, NPC Standing Committee Chairman Zhang said when delivering a work report to the NPC annual session.
The NPC Standing Committee last year enacted some key laws, including the National Security Law which was adopted after three readings. In December the Anti-Terrorism Law was adopted by the top legislature.
It also made timely changes to the Population and Family Planning Law allowing all couples to have two children.
"Our initiatives in legislation led to a number of important achievements that have supported and promoted the country's reform and development and ensured its stability," Zhang added.
