BEIJING, March 2 (Xinhua) -- A spokesperson with the national political advisory body on Wednesday criticized some factories of breaking environment rules and called for green efforts from the government and public.
While the country is fighting a serious battle against air pollution, the industrial sector should follow an eco-friendly principle, Wang Guoqing, spokesman for the annual session of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) National Committee, said at a press conference ahead of the session.
Wang denounced that some companies deactivated their pollution control facilities to cut costs and eluded supervision to discharge pollutants.
"These companies are irresponsible," he said. "Such barbarian acts must be stopped."
He also called for the government to adopt a green development pattern and the public to choose an eco-friendly lifestyle so that the country can better cope with air pollution.
Acknowledging the progress made by the government to clean the air, Wang admitted that more should be done.
The fight against air pollution is a dragging battle that requires patience and sense, he said.
