BEIJING, Jan. 27-- The installed nuclear power capacity will reach 58 gigawatts (GW) in the Chinese mainland with an additional 30 GW under construction by 2020, said a white paper on China's nuclear emergency preparedness issued on Wednesday.
Under its medium- and long-term development objectives, China aims to build a strong nuclear power country by 2030, said the document issued by the State Council Information Office.
The development of nuclear power constitutes an important component of China's nuclear energy sector, the white paper said.
As of October 2015, the Chinese mainland had 27 nuclear power generating units in operation, with a total installed capacity of 25.5 GW, while another 25 units with a total installed capacity of 27.51 GW had been under construction, the white paper said.
