1. Chinese real estate and entertainment conglomerate Wanda Group paid 1.05 billion euros for Infront Sports and Media, a world leading sports marketing group, in February and bought the World Triathlon Corporation for 650 million euros. It also took a 20 percent stake in Spanish champions Atletico Madrid for 44.98 million euros.

2. American boxing icon Floyd Mayweather earned a unanimous decision over Manny Pacquiao in the "Fight of the Century" in Las Vegas in May, to improve his perfect record to 48-0. The total revenues of the fight also set records for pay-per-view TV sales as well as ticket sales.

3. Several FIFA senior officials were arrested in Zurich in May and pending extradition to the United States, on the suspicion of receiving bribes. FIFA president Sepp Blatter then resigned on June 4, just four days after his re-election. Blatter and UEFA President Michel Platini have been banned by the FIFA ethics committee for eight years each in December.

4. Barcelona beat Juventus 3-1 in the UEFA Champions League final at Berlin Olympia stadium on June 6, becoming the only team having twice won the trebleof the league, cup and Champions League champions since 2009.

5. The International Olympic Committee awarded the 2022 Winter Olympics to Beijing and its co-bidder Zhangjiakou at the 128th IOC session in Kuala Lumpur on July 31. China became the ninth country to host both the summer and winter Olympic Games and Beijing as the first city to host summer and winter Olympics.

6. US swimming Katie Ledecky collected golds in the 200m, 400m, 800m and 1,500m freestyles as well as the 4x200m freestyle relay at the 2015 FINA World Championships in Kazan in August, where she also rewrote womens 800m freestyle world record and twice lowered her own 1,500m world record.

7. The 29-year-old Jamaican sprinter Usain Bolt won the men's 100m, 200m and 4x100m races at the World Athletics Championships in Beijing in August. He becomes the first collecting three gold medals in three World Championships, and his 11 golds at the worlds also set a record.

8. The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) accused Russia of numerous violations of global anti-doping codes on November 9, suspended the accreditation of the Moscow Anti-doping Center. The International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) also suspended the All-Russia Athletic Federation (ARAF) as an IAAF member with immediate effect on November 13, and ARAF accepted the suspension without requesting a hearing.

9. France beat Germany 2-0 on November 13 in a friendly in the Stade de France, shadowed by several attacks throughout central Paris which claimed 130 lives and about 350 injuries.

10. The Los Angeles Lakers icon Kobe Bryant announced to retire at the end of the season on November 29. Bryant is one of the greatest in the NBA history with 17 All-Star selections, one MVP, five championships with the Lakers and two Olympic gold medals.
