Report: Chinese women have better physical health than men

A 2014 Monitoring Report on the Physique of Chinese Nationals aged from 3 to 69 was released by the China's General Sports Administration this Wednesday. The report presents several interesting findings.

More overweight people in China

Overweight and obesity has been posing a significant threat to the physiques of the adults and the elderly, according the report.

Data show that the overweight rate of the adults and the elderly reached 32.7 percent and 41.6 percent, up 0.6 percentage points and 1.8 percentage points respectively from 2010; the obesity rate of the adults and the elderly achieved 10.5 percent and 13.9 percent, growing 0.6 percentage points and 0.9 percentage points respectively from 2010.

Average height increases

Data show that Chinese children at the age of seven average over 1.2 meters in height. The average height of a boy aged seven is 1.26 meters and that of a girl 1.25 meters.

Chinese people of all ages increase in average height,according to the report.

Chinese men experience drop in fitness-related metrics

The report shows that Chinese nationals as a whole experience an increase in the fitness-related metrics but the male adults see a drop in these metrics.Data show that the rate of Chinese male adults who reach the state fitness standard for their age and gender decreases by 0.1 percent, registering a second straight fall from 2010.

An increasing number of women in good health

Chinese women become healthier compared with men. Data show that the rate of Chinese female adults above the state fitness standard for their age and gender reaches 91.1 percent and their composite fitness index is 101.42, a sharp contrast to men's bad performance in these two aspects.
