A school in Deshi Town, Panzhihua, southwestern China’s Sichuan province, posted a message online 8 years ago hoping people can donate some warm clothing for students in need. After 8 years the donated clothes far exceed the students’ requirements. “In this year alone, we have received 10 tons of clothes. But there are only 260 children at school. There is no way we can use all of these clothes. Please do not donate any more clothes,” said the school principal Fu Zhong on Nov. 23, 2015.

The school has also thought about sending these clothes to other people who are really in need. But the postage of mailing 10 tons of clothes is too expensive to afford. According to the principal, many students were coming from poor families in 2007. In the winter most of them did not have warm clothes. So the school posted the situation on the Internet and soon many warm clothes were donated. Students were very happy and grateful; they even wrote letters of thanks to those who donated.

“We never expected the overwhelming generosity of Chinese netizens.” In recent years the local residents’ condition has been greatly improved with the development of local industries, and the school has been equipped with facilities like a multi-media classroom and library. However, the clothes donation has never stopped, and even more clothes are being mailed to the school every day.
