On Sep. 3, China will hold a military parade to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the victory of the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggressions and the World Anti-Fascist War. Veterans of the Kuomintang (KMT) and the Communist Party of China (CPC) will be invited to jointly attend the military parade for the first time in order to demonstrate the spirit of national unity in war.
It is reported that the military parade will have 50 square formations, and veterans of the KMT and the CPC will appear in two riding formations. Veterans of the KMT and the CPC in the anti-Japanese War who are still alive,descendants of martyrs from the KMT and the CPC in the anti-Japanese War and models that supported the front line during the War will march through the Tian'anmen Square in open cars.
The average age of the veterans attending the military parade is 90 years old, with the oldest one being 102 years old. Fu Longqian, 92, a veteran from the KMT said: “We are given the highest courteous reception by attending the military parade. And the participation in the War is the most memorable thing in my life.”
Qiao Liang, a professor from National Defense University, highlighted that inviting veterans of the KMT and the CPC to attend the military parade demonstrates the CPC’s inclusiveness and broad mindedness.
Dai Panli, daughter of General Dai Anlan, an anti-Japanese hero from the KMT, said, “As a descendant of martyrs, I am comforted to attend such a grand military parade. It not only demonstrates the respect to history, but also enhances the common memory in the Anti-Japanese War of compatriots on both sides of the Straits.
It is said that each veteran who attends the military parade will undergo overall physical examination, and professional medical personnel will be arranged to ensure physical fitness of them.
