August 23, 2015 was the second day of the World Athletics Championships in Beijing. Doctors and nurses at the No. 3 Hospital of Peking University were ready to serve for the athletes competing in the championships and to handle any emergencies.
At 9:30 p.m., a barefoot Tanzanian athlete, with the help of volunteers, jumped into the Emergency Medical Service (EMS) station of the hospital. The medical workers tried to communicate with him through several languages and many body languages, but their attempts failed because he only speaks Swahili.
Yu Miao, the deputy medical manager in this Service Station, who is proficient in English and French, did not know what to do. Finally, Wang Jing, a nurse of the Emergency Department, found an APP which can translate Chinese into Swahili on the Internet and solved the problem.
Examination found the athlete suffered from gastrocnemius muscle injury. He left the Emergency Medical Service (EMS) station satisfied after the treatment.
