The Wall Street Journal published an article named "Why We’re Jealous of Chinese Smartphones" on Tuesday, saying "Americans get the best new handsets from Apple first. But in China, there are ways of living your life through a smartphone that left us jealous."

The article also pointed out that China’s mobile has leapfrogged the US in five ways: operating systems of messaging apps, wallets function, rapid upgrade culture, the faster operating system and a TV function.

The rise of China's smartphone companies from low-cost labels to upmarket brands has been meteoric.

"Chinese smartphone companies are now more willing to invest in innovation by putting state-of-the-art technology into their devices," said Xiang Ligang, an independent analyst and founder of telecom website cctime.com.

"They know the 'low performance for low price' strategy does not work in today's market. Cheap devices will never make big profit margins," Xiang said.

China's ZTE, a provider of telecom equipment and network solutions, is the fourth-largest smartphone manufacturer in the United States and the second-largest in the off-contract market.

Huami Co Ltd expects sales of its Xiaomi Mi Bands to reach 10 million in the third quarter, making it the largest maker of wearable fitness devices in the world.

Lenovo was the lone Chinese brand among India's top-five smartphone suppliers.

"What’s China’s edge? The world’s largest Internet culture—some 649 million wired people, 86% on phones—who make an incredible test base for new ideas. Many young people leapfrogged over laptops right to smartphones as their main computing device, so phones have evolved to do more." says WJS. In this regard, China has a reason to be proud.
