BANGKOK, Aug. 20 -- Thai authorities said on Thursday that the Bangkok blast, which has left 20 people dead and more than 100 others injured, did not specifically target the Chinese tourists.
"The Chinese people were not the direct target," National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO) spokesman Winthai Suwaree told a press conference.
Thailand has sought assistance from the Interpol and relevant agencies of friendly countries with an investigation of Monday's deadly blast, the spokesman said.
The Thai government believed the bomb attack in downtown Bangkok was not likely perpetrated by a global terrorist group.
