BEIJING, August 15 -- More than 700 people have been injured in the massive explosions. Of these, 25 are now reported to be critically wounded and 33 others are in a serious condition. The condition of those with critical burn injuries is particularly serious. They are now receiving treatment at the hospital affiliated to Logistics University of People's Armed Police Force in the city.
The patients have been isolated so that further infections can be avoided. Doctors say their treatment is proving challenging as most of the patients are suffering from combined injures, such as blast lesions, and chemical poisoning. The National Health and Family Planning Commission has dispatched a team of 36 experts to assist with the treatment of the injured. They have now reviewed all cases.
"Most patients who have severe wounds, or suffer from blast injuries and burns, will become stable after initial treatment. But they are at risk of complications such as infection and organ failure in the coming one week, our main task is to focus on those critically-injured patients," said Xi Xiuming, Head of Medical Experts Team.
