Six tourists from the Chinese mainland stood trial at Hong Kong's Tsuen Wan Court on Wednesday.
They were all arrested for assaulting airport ground staff after their flight from Hong Kong to Beijing was delayed by eight hours.
Four out of the six were sentenced to between nine and 11 days in prison while one was fined 1500 dollars. One tourist surnamed Zhao denied the accusation. Zhao has been permitted a bail of 100,000 HK dollars but is not allowed to leave Hong Kong as his case will be reviewed on September 9.
The lawyer for the tourists has pleaded for light sentencing considering that this is their first public offence and they are remorseful for their behavior.
However the judge claimed that ground staff should receive legal protection of the court as they were fulfilling their duties when they were assaulted.
