BEIJING, July 30 -- The Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee on Thursday decided to set up a leading group on"united front work" to pool support from across society.
The decision was made at a meeting of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, which was presided over by Chinese President and General Secretary of the CPC Central Committee Xi Jinping, said a statement issued after the meeting.
The CPC's "united front" normally includes members of non-CPC parties, overseas Chinese, religious leaders, outstanding intellectuals and private entrepreneurs.
The leading group will focus on implementing CPC policies among people and sectors of the united front and researching major policies related to them, the statement said.
It will also supervise local Party departments to implement the central leadership's policies on the united front, it said.
In May, the Party held a three-day high-level meeting on united front work. At the meeting, Xi urged authorities to improve united front work and pool strength and support from people of all walks of life, including non-CPC elite, young people from the private sector and overseas Chinese.
