Beijing issued this summer's first heat alert on Sunday as the maximum temperature in the Chinese capital soared above 40 degrees Celsius. Allowance for people working under extreme high temperature has become a hot topic.

A regulation passed in 2012 in China clarified that if the maximum temperature reached above 40 degrees Celsius, labors should stop outdoor work. If the maximum temperature reached between 37 degrees Celsius to 40 degrees Celsius, the outdoor work time may not exceed six hours and the workers should not operate outdoor jobs during the hottest three hours in a day. When the maximum temperature reached between 35 degrees Celsius to 37 degrees Celsius, the employer should shorten the operation time, and should not arrange any overtime outdoor work.

If an employer arrange laborers to work at temperatures above 35 degrees Celsius and the employer is not able to take effective measures to drop temperatures of the workplace to below 33 degrees Celsius, he should pay an allowance to laborers.

At least 27 provinces defined the standard of high temperature allowances in 2015. Among them, Tianjin has the highest allowance- 3.9 USD per day, while Hainan has province longest allowance period- from April to October.

In addition, a heat stroke due to working condition can be regarded as an occupational disease.
