FUZHOU, July 3-- Fuzhou, capital of Fujian Province, east China, will build a giant panda center nestled in the city's mountains, which will serve as a summer vacation home for the bears.
Guling Mountain is about 13 kilometers from Fuzhou, and 800 meters above sea level. It has an average annual temperature of around 15 degrees Celsius, and rarely exceeds 28 degrees Celsius in summer. The area also boasts a mature bamboo forest.
Chen Yucun, the head of Fuzhou giant panda research and exchange center, said there is already a panda base on the mountain that is used by the giant pandas during the peak of summer, between July and September. However, annual typhoons have damaged it.
The new center in Yixia Village will be a summer resort covering over 1.3 hectares and villas will be built that can accommodate up to five pandas.
Fuzhou giant panda research and exchange center currently has seven giant pandas.
