GABORONE, June 16 -- The newly arrived 14th China Medical Team to Botswana comprises two specialized groups of cardiac and obstetrics, which is a new attempt, the team said Tuesday.
Another feature of the team, arrived at Gaborone earlier this month, is half of 45 members are graduate degrees holders, said the team leader Chen Lieping at a welcome reception held by the Chinese embassy in Botswana.
The 13-month language training prior to their departure helped the team adapt to new environment quickly, said Chen.
Chinese Ambassador to Botswana Zheng Zhuqiang urged the medical team to devote themselves in Botswana, with their clinical expertise and delicate techniques, adding that he is confident the team will deliver quality services and improve general health of Botswana people.
Director of Department of Health Policy, Development, Monitoring and Evaluation of Botswana Naledi Mlaudzi thanked the Chinese medical team's contribution to the Southern African country.
Health-care has long been one of the top priority areas in China-Botswana cooperation. The Chinese government not only dispatches medical teams, but also donates clinical equipment and provides training opportunities for local health professionals.
