BEIJING, June 3 -- A Chinese mainland spokesman on Wednesday reiterated its opposition to Taiwan independence, in response to an article by the chair of Taiwan's opposition Democratic Progressive Party (DPP).
Adherence to the "1992 Consensus" between the mainland and Taiwan is the basis of peaceful development of cross-Strait relations, said Ma Xiaoguang, spokesman for the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office.
In an op-ed published in The Wall Street Journal on Tuesday, DPP chief Tsai Ing-wen wrote that "a more consistent and sustainable relationship with China will be a core goal of my administration".
"Our stance on Taiwan is consistent and clear," Ma said. "There is no way forward for a secessionist stance."
