NEW DELHI, June 1 -- Northwest India is likely to see occasional storms over the next few days, following a week of heat wave, although central India and southeast states of Andhra Telangana may have to wait for a few more days for rain, said meteorological officials.

A fresh pulse of moist winds from the west, called western disturbance, had reached Indian-controlled Kashmir and was likely to interact with a low pressure system over Haryana in northern India to bring scattered dust storms and thundershowers over northwest India, including New Delhi, from Monday, said the meteorological officials.

Occasional wet spells are likely to continue for three to four days and may result in temperatures dropping below 40 degrees Celsius in the northwestern part of the country.

A slight easing of heat wave conditions could also take place in central and southeast India from Tuesday.

Over 2,200 people have died of heat wave in India, mostly in the southeast states of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, over the past one week.
