Chinese Premier Li Keqiang's recent four nation tour in Latin America was both constructive and fruitful. What were the hot topics that attracted most attention during the trip?
International Capacity Cooperation
Along with Preimer Li's visit, "international capacity cooperation" represented by China's railways was one highlight.
In Brazil, Premier Li Keqiang and Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff signed 35 trade deals and agreements worth over $27 billion; in Colombia, the leaders of both sides signed 12 bilateral cooperation agreements involving infrastructure construction, productivity, aid, cultural and education; in Peru, Li announced that China will actively participate in the construction of the "Twin Ocean Railroad Connection" and railway transportation projects in the countries involved. Along with cooperation in equipment, China will strengthen technology transfer to Latin America to promote economic development and mutual benefit.
Super Salesman
Earning the title of "super salesman", Premier Li Keqiang contributes a lot to the popularity of "international capacity cooperation".
During his visit to Brazil, besides visiting a Chinese equipment manufacturing exhibition, Premier Li took a ride on a Chinese-made subway train and a Chinese-made ferry boat in Rio De Janeiro, constantly promoting Chinese equipment to foreign friends.
3×3 Model
During his visit to Brazil, Premier Li Keqiang put forward for the first time the "3×3 model", an important initiative for industrial cooperation between China and Latin America and the Caribbean, at the closing of the China-Brazil Business Summit. The "3×3 model" refers to the multiplication effect of the following aspects: firstly, cooperation in building three arteries for Latin America in the fields of logistics, power and information; secondly, sound interaction among businesses, the society and the government; thirdly, the expansion of the three financing channels of fund, credit and insurance.
As yet another important initiative put forward by China in recent years for cooperation with Latin America and the Caribbean, the "3×3 model" identified the ways and steps to transform and upgrade practical cooperation between the two sides.
Mutual Learning between Chinese and Latin American Civilizations
During his trip, Li visited the hometown of Gabriel Garcia Marquez, and also Peru's National Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology in Lima.
During the museum visit, Li toured an exhibition on the origins of Chavin culture, Inca culture and Chinese civilization. He highlighted the cultural importance of the two countries through the centuries, and spoke of the benefits of future cultural exchange between the two countries.
"China has millet, and Peru has corn and potatoes. Those crops have been planted all over the world and now feed the peoples of many different countries," he said. "The agricultural civilizations of Peru and China have contributed to the development of humankind."
Stopover Visit
Premier Li Keqiang paid a stopover visit to Ireland before his tour of Brazil.
Although he stayed in Shannon for only 20 hours, the arrangements for his trip were almost like a formal visit. They involved visiting a cow farm, holding a bilateral talk, signing deals to facilitate the trade of agricultural products between the two countries, and attending a family dinner held by Enda Kenny, the Taoiseach, and his wife Fionnuala O'Kelly.
