The Industrial and Commercial bank of China (ICBC) has replied to the cases in which some depositors' savings have disappeared at a branch in Shijiazhuang, north China's Hebei province, reported Xinhua news agency on Tuesday.
The bank said two suspects conducted the fraud with the temptation of a high interest rate.
Zhao Jinyu, the person in charge of the bank's operation in the province said they had already reported the cases to the police and would further cooperate with them.
According to the primary investigation, the involved amount reaches tens of millions yuan.
An anonymous female depositor told a reporter that she had put about 10 million yuan (1.6 million USD) into the Jiannan branch of the ICBC from May 2014 to January 2015. But on May 7, there was only 124 yuan left in her account.
Another man named Yu Bin also lost 3 million yuan (484,000 USD) at the same branch of the bank.
According to depositors who lost their savings at the bank, they had bought financial products with a high interest rate from staff at the bank and an insurance company and started an internet banking payment service at the bank.
Their e-payment information is thought to have been exposed, according to the report.
Further investigations are under way.
