HONG KONG, March 17 -- The Hong Kong government Tuesday announced that a grant of 2.5 million HK dollars (about 32, 216 U.S. dollars) has been approved to World Vision Hong Kong for providing relief to flood victims in Malawi, Africa.
This move came after the government has accepted the advice of Hong Kong's Disaster Relief Fund Advisory Committee. A government spokesman said the committee hoped that the grant would facilitate the provision of timely relief to the victims and help them return to normal life.
To ensure that the money will be used for the designated purposes, World Vision Hong Kong will be asked to submit an evaluation report and an audited account on the use of the grant after the relief project has been completed. (1 U.S. dollar equals 7.76 HK dollars)
