Yang Wenzheng, who illegally raised a tiger has resigned from his position of the Qingdao's local committee deputy of the National People's Congress. He was also fined 3000 yuan (about 500 USD), in East China's Shandong province on Thursday, reports dzwww.com.

The seven month old tiger was found dead in a parking lot after falling from a building in Pingdu on the night of the Chinese New Years Eve. Local authorities said the animal became frightened by the noise from fireworks. It escaped from its cage and eventually fell off the roof of the building.

Another tiger was confiscated after the accident, and will be raised by state-sanctioned institutes.

Yang Wenzheng, who raised the tiger, publicized an apology letter, saying he felt grieved after the accident. He said his raising an illegal tiger does not accord with his position of the deputy of Qingdao's local committee of the National People's Congress, therefore he resigned from the position.

Yang explained he only kept the two tigers to help out a friend who runs a scenic spot and is going through financial difficulties.

Yang does not possess any governmental approval, Siberian tigers are under first-grade state protection in China.
