A survey found food safety has become the public's top concern as China kicked off its political high season to discuss development goals and reforms for the coming year.

According to the poll published by China Youth Daily on Wednesday, 77.3 percent of respondents said the issue of food safety is the most important quality of life issue to focus on during the annual two sessions of China's top legislative body and top national advisory body.[Special coverage]

The Third Session of the 12th National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), the country's top political advisory body, opened Tuesday in Beijing. The annual parliamentary session will convene on Thursday.

Commodity and housing prices, medical care, pensions, air quality and traffic jams were also among the most-discussed issues, according to the survey, which sampled 2,196 people.

The country's political and economic development have also drawn public attention during the sessions.

Some 61.3 percent of those polled said that the country's anti-corruption drive was their top concern among political and economic issues, while 61.2 percent said economic reform should be at the top of the two sessions' agenda.

Other hot topics include environmental protection, the legal system, family-planning policy and urbanization reform.
