LOS ANGELES, Feb. 26 -- A car ran out of control and hit four pedestrians within the University of Southern California (USC) campus on Thursday.

Three of the four pedestrians received medical care and were released at the scene. One Chinese female student suffered a critical condition, who was later transferred to a hospital.

According to the LAPD's latest news, the pedestrian in critical condition is a 24-year-old Chinese female student named Tong Tong. She is a USC Architecture graduate student and is now hospitalized for intensive care.

According to LAPD officers, at the noontime, a grey Toyota Camry lost control at the intersection of Jefferson Boulevard and McClintock Street, within the USC campus. It hit the traffic sign and the four USC students. The car was heavily damaged and the driver was a 23-year-old female USC student.

Sergeant Rogers, an officer of LAPD Media and Public Relation Department, said "the driver and the four individuals that were hit were all USC students. Three of the pedestrians that were struck were treated at the scene, and released"

"In other words, there was no life-threatening injuries, and one of the pedestrians that was hit unfortunately suffered more critical injuries, and she was transferred to a local hospital where she underwent a surgery and in intensive care this time, for observation," Rogers added.

The accident happened right at a major intersection within the USC campus with a lot of students coming by for classes. After the accident, the roads were closed, causing problems for students going through.

The safety of the USC campus has always been a concern after two gun shots in three years, but this time, according to LAPD, it was a "simple accident" caused by the driver's medical emergency.

So far, the LAPD did not say what consequence the driver will face.

Rogers told Xinhua, "If there is any concern out there, I would just say this is nothing to be concerned about as far as it regards this was a simple tragic, it was an accident."

Another student suffering minor injuries was a Chinese who was told to be at the hospital, too. But this information has not been confirmed yet.

The police department has not released the identities of the other three minor injured USC students.

The USC Department of Public Safety has not released any future information about this accident yet.
