UNITED NATIONS, Feb. 23 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi on Monday met his Serbian counterpart, Ivica Dacic, on the sidelines of a Security Council open debate initiated by China on maintaining international peace and security.

Wang said that Dacic's attendance at the debate has demonstrated Serbia's sense of mission and responsibility to maintain international peace and security and abide by the purposes of the UN Charter.

He said that China hopes to work with the international community, including Serbia, to learn from history, oppose all acts that are against the historic trend, cherish the hard-won peaceful situation, and join hands to create a better world.

"China is willing to make joint efforts with Serbia to further develop bilateral relations," Wang said, noting that the current focus is to accelerate implementation of the important consensus reached last year when Chinese Premier Li Keqiang visited Belgrade, and advance mutually beneficial cooperation in transportation infrastructure, industry and other fields.

Dacic, for his part, said Serbia and China are good friends and the relations between the two sides have maintained sound momentum.

The two countries should maintain close high-level exchanges, accelerate implementation of the consensus reached by leaders of the two sides, launch at an early date key cooperation projects such as the Hungary-Serbia railway and the China-Europe land-sea express passage, which is important for the future development of Serbia and Eastern European countries, Dacic said.
