BEIJING, Oct. 27 -- A total of 8,157 Chinese officials were punished in September for breaches of anti-bureaucracy rules.
These officials were reported in 6,055 cases, half of which involved "violating work discipline", according to a statement released on Monday by the Communist Party of China Central Commission for Discipline Inspection and the Ministry of Supervision.
The statement said other cases involved private use of official vehicles, engaging in high-end entertainment and gym activities with public funds, holding ostentatious weddings and funerals, giving or receiving gifts and spending public money on lavish dinners.
A total of 82,533 officials have been punished since the rules were introduced late in 2012.
