HONG KONG, Oct. 27 -- Hong Kong Customs said on Monday that about 4 kg of suspected ketamine, which is worth about 476, 000 HK dollars (about 61,340 U.S. dollars), were seized at Shenzhen Bay Control Point.
Hong Kong Customs officers intercepted an incoming private car at Shenzhen Bay Control Point on Sunday night and found the suspected drugs in a rucksack placed inside the private car. A male driver and a male occupant were arrested.
Upon follow-up investigation, Customs officers arrested a woman in Kwai Chung for possession of a small amount of drugs and apparatus.
The three suspects were detained for suspected drug trafficking, possession of a dangerous drug and possession of apparatus fit for inhaling a dangerous drug.
Drug trafficking is a serious offense in Hong Kong. The maximum penalty is life imprisonment and a fine of 5 million HK dollars. ( 1 U.S. dollar = 7.76 HK dollars)
