BEIJING, Sept. 20 -- Beijing conducted a drill against air raids on Saturday to enhance the handling such attacks.

More than 1,800 people from 30 units participated in the manoeuvre, which the municipal authorities described as a success. They practised issuing warnings, evacuation and sheltering, self-care and buddy aid and protection of important economic targets.

Three suburbs of the capital, Mentougou, Fangshan and Yanqing districts sounded air raid sirens during the simulation, according to the authorities.
