BEIJING, June 4 -- The leading group of the Chinese Communist Party's (CPC) "mass line" campaign on Wednesday released a statement detailing the progress of the frugality campaign.

Provincial governments and some major municipality government departments have vacated 2.7 million square meters of government office that has been misused, 87.4 percent of the total misused area.

Leading Party cadres at the provincial level also vacated some 27,000 square meters of office space that is not in keeping with regulations.

According to the statement, authorities have rectified the misuse of 16,326 public vehicles, 98.6 percent of the total that has been listed as delinquent.

The leadership launched the "mass line" campaign to curb decadence and fight corruption in last June and a series of bans and regulations have been issued to target oversized official offices and extravagant government vehicles.

Local governments also cut unnecessary meetings, slashed official overseas visits, halted new government buildings and downsized public expenditure on vehicles, official receptions and overseas junkets, according to the statement.
