Huawei, a leading global information and communications technology (ICT) solutions provider, announced here the partnership with Nigeria's Federal Ministry of Communication Technology (FMCT) on an orientation program on ICT Basic Knowledge on Monday.
The program is aimed to providing the Nigerian females who are willing to explore their careers in ICT industry with free short- term training and internships. The training will be organized in Huawei ICT Training Center in Abuja and Huawei Exhibition Hall in Lagos. And about 1,000 female university students will benefit from the one-year duration program.
"The program was part of Huawei's commitment of localization, technology transferring to Nigeria and employment promotion, Mr. Hover Gao, Vice President of Huawei West Africa, said.
He said Huawei and FMCT will develop this campaign into a long- term project. "The training also enables us to create an ICT talents pool and some of the trainees will become Huawei employees, " said Hover.
FMCT expressed highly appreciation on Huawei's behavior as a responsible corporate citizen in Nigeria, and hopes that the program would attract more Nigerian Females into the ICT industry.
The Consul-General of the People's Republic of China in Lagos Liu Xianfa and representative for Minister of Women Affairs attended the event.
Huawei was the first ICT solutions provider to establish an ICT training center in Abuja, the country's capital, back in 2004 and since then the training center has provided more than 5,000 opportunities to ICT practitioners.
