ACCRA, April 17 -- China's Ambassador to Ghana, Sun Baohong, on Wednesday visited Ghana's information minister for promotion of bilateral relations.

Sun told Mahama Ayariga, Ghana's Minister of Information and Media Relations, that trade between the two countries ranked fifth in Sub-Saharan Africa, and that Ghana ranked third among African countries in the number of students in China

This, she noted, meant a lot of investment in human resources cooperation between the two countries.

Sun said Ghana, as the first country in sub-Saharan Africa to gain independence, had made huge contributions to liberation movements of a number of African countries.

"We have helped Ghana to construct several major infrastructure projects and office buildings, roads, schools and hospitals; and this year will witness the completion of several other major projects and we are very happy," she said.

"I am determined to further promote our bilateral relations and cooperation in energy, infrastructure, and human resource development and in media," Sun said.

She extended an invitation to the Ghanaian minister to attend this year's China-Africa forum on media which will take place in June.

Ayariga said China had become a major trading partner of Ghana and had invested significantly in helping to build the human resource base of Ghana.

"We want to assure you of our ministry's support and collaboration with you in every area that you think our services will be needed," he said.

He accepted the invitation for the China-Africa media forum and assured the ambassador that Ghana would be properly represented.

Sun will be among several ambassadors to present their letters of credence to President John Dramani Mahama at a ceremony at the Flagstaff House on April 25.
