BEIJING, Nov. 23 -- China's top political advisor, Yu Zhengsheng, met with former Namibian President Sam Nujoma in the Great Hall of the People in Beijing Saturday.
Yu, chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), said he appreciated Nujoma for his important contributions to advancing the China-Namibia friendship over the years.
Yu said that since the two countries established diplomatic ties 23 years ago, bilateral relations have withstood the test of changes in international and internal conditions and have grown stronger.
He said China is ready to work with Namibia to carry on the friendly relationship and expand cooperation in various areas for the benefit of both peoples.
Yu said friendly cooperation with African countries has always been an important part of the foundation of China's foreign policy. He said it is the long-term, staunch and strategic choice of China to expand friendly ties with Africa.
Yu expressed readiness to step up communication with all African parties so as to advance China-Africa cooperation and promote peace and development in Africa.
Nujoma said Namibia highly values its relationship with China and that the friendship between the two countries is deep-rooted. He said Namibia is ready to expand friendly cooperation with China in the areas of politics, economy, trade and culture. He expressed the wish that bilateral cooperation will bear even greater fruits.
