BEIJING, Sept. 11 -- The Chinese Foreign Ministry on Wednesday expressed strong dissatisfaction over Japanese remarks about China's "normal maritime and aerial activities," stressing that China will take effective action to safeguard sovereignty of the Diaoyu Islands.
Foreign Ministry spokesman Hong Lei told a regular press briefing that China is strongly dissatisfied that the Japanese side has not engaged in self-reflection but made irresponsible remarks over China's normal maritime and aerial activities on the anniversary of the illegal and unilateral move to "nationalize" part of the Diaoyu Islands.
According to a Kyodo news agency report, Japanese Defense Minister Itsunori Onodera on Tuesday told reporters Japan's ministry has strengthened daily monitoring by its Self-Defense Forces in the area.
Hong urged the Japanese side to face up to history and reality, take concrete actions to correct its error and stop all actions that undermine China's sovereignty so as to eliminate obstacles for improving bilateral relations.
