BEIJING, June 27 (Xinhuanet) -- Cyber security is one of those challenges that can only be faced jointly, Peter Launsky-Tieffenthal, Under-Secretary-General for Communications and Public Information, said Thursday in an exclusive interview to Xinhuanet.

Responding to the question of how the international community can ensure cyber security, Launsky-Tieffenthal said: "Since United Nations offers a platform to deal with global challenges, and cyber security being such a global challenge, is also dealt with by the United Nations."

Launsky-Tieffenthal also hoped for a partnership between Xinhua News Agency and the United Nations, for which, the big challenge is to find good balance between different forms of media.

He said with an increasing number of young people following UN, it poses a challenging task for UN.

UN is trying to tell the story of what it does across the world in as many languages as possible, and the most important one being Chinese, he added.

"We are very happy with our relationship with Xinhuanet, and Xinhua as a whole to be able to share the story with the Chinese speaking public," he said.

Peter Launsky-Tieffenthal is also the United Nations Coordinator for Multilingualism, a position in which he coordinates the issue of multilingualism throughout the UN Secretariat.
